French cuisine

In many people's opinion French cuisine is the most delicate cuisine in the world. The Frenchmen were always known as gourmands and French cuisine, at least in Europe and America, was always an example of perfection in culinary art. Tens and maybe hundreds of terms used in the English language today have been taken from French cuisine, as well as they have been 'exported' to many other languages of the world - this is, of course, the sign of the great popularity and influence of French cuisine. French people consider cooking as a true art, just like music or poetry, and successful cooks and chefs are treated correspondingly. A lot of famous Frenchmen wrote and published their recipe books all around the world, and, in fact, they still do.

Although French cuisine includes hundreds and hundreds of amazing dishes, a set of the most typical ones can be distinguished, and the mere names of them immediately remind people about France and everything French, even if they've never been there. Among them are baguettes, rabbit liver, fois gras, fish soup, fricassee from chicken, caramel cream, soufflé, and some others.

As for drinks, Frenchmen prefer fruit juices and mineral water. Coffee is particularly popular here too, as well as in many other countries today. The most popular alcohol drinks are absinthe, Calvados, cognac. A common perception is that Frenchmen cannot spend a day without drinking wine. This is only partially true, because in most cases it concerns those who live in Southern provinces.
